ABOUT THE PIANO SCHOOL OF GAITHERSBURG:
Located conveniently on Goshen Road in Gaithersburg,MD. The PIANO SCHOOL offers private and group beginning, intermediate and advanced piano and keyboard lessons for all ages.
The mission of the PIANO SCHOOL is to teach, motivate, and encourage students to develop a passion for music through technical training and to adopt poise and confidence as they perform for others. As the students’ love of music grows, our goal is to help them succeed in understanding music and playing the piano to the best of their ability while expanding the student’s intellectual and artistic creativity throughout their musical experience.
The director and lead teacher, Dr. Eugenia Posey-Marcos, has over 35 years experience teaching children and adults piano, organ and keyboard, music theory, music appreciation and history, piano ensemble and accompanying. Dr. Posey-Marcos has a Bachelor of Music (Wesleyan College) and Masters of Music (Hartt School of University of Hartford) in piano performance and piano teaching and Ph.D from East Tennessee State University. She also has had additional study at Georgia State University and Suzuki training in Atlanta, Georgia. She is an active member of the American College of Musicians (National Guild of Piano Teachers) and belongs to the National, Maryland, and Montgomery County Music Teachers Association. She is a founding member of the National Music Certificate Program and is a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota (the International Professional Music Fraternity) and belongs to the American Guild of Organists. She has performed as soloist and as a professional accompanist throughout the Southeast and New England and has served as a church musician/organist-accompanist since the age of twelve.
Dr. Posey-Marcos is committed to the highest artistic standards. Valuing each student for their unique talent, she customizes her teaching methods and choice of curriculum for each student. She teaches both Suzuki and traditional methods of piano and includes theory and sight-singing, music history and appreciation as part of the curriculum.
Starting in September, 2009, in addition to private lessons, Dr. Posey-Marcos will offer several group classes for preschool ages, ages 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-17, and adults.
Limited openings are available for the summer session and for the Fall 2008 Semester.

COURSE OF STUDY
Private Lessons: One weekly lesson per week of 30 minutes. One hour and 45-minute lessons are available for advanced students or special needs students.
Group Lessons: One weekly 45-minute session group consisting of small classes of 4 to 6 students starting Fall Semester 2008 based on age and level. Pre-evaluation will be required.
Ensemble Music: Study of piano duet, piano concerto, or chamber works is offered for advanced students.
Theory, Sight-singing and Note Reading: Theory classes are included as a part of the private or group class.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES: Performances Many performance opportunities, including piano recitals, participation in musical assessments and festivals such as the Piano Guild, and special master classes are available.

Interviews
An interview is required for prospective students and their parents in order to make an initial assessment of a beginning student's readiness to begin lessons or to determine the placement level of a continuing student. The initial twenty-minute interview for prospective students is free.
Tuition
Tuition fees, half-hour or hourly lessons per week, are payable at the first lesson of each month starting from September 1 to June 30. This is a monthly flat rate which is normally for four lessons. There are, however, several months each year with five lessons. These extra lessons serve to make up for an occasional student's absence or holiday. Summer lessons in July and August are optional, as needed.
