The Piano School would like to share with each parent several basic tips that will help assure success in your child's piano education.
1. The student must have a well-maintained piano or digital/electronic piano with touch-sensitive and weighted keys. Keyboards need to be set at a proper height.
2. Students need to have a set time of daily practice. The student needs to understand that daily practice is required and that the parent's job is to help the student fulfill his/her obligations.
3. The practice setting must be free from all distractions (i.e., television, pets, other siblings).
4. Parents should follow up on their child's assignments during the week and make sure the child has completed all assignments.
5. Parents should check the assignment books regularly and sign off on the student's practice chart.
6. Parents need to arrive at all lessons and events on time.
7. The child needs to come prepared with all his/her music at the lessons.
8. Make sure the child has clean hands and short-clipped nails.
9. Parents need to encourage their child and offer positive, constructive comments.
10. Parents can provide performance opportunities at home with mini-musicales with family and friends.
11. During recitals, parents are welcome to sit with their preschool child on stage, to help their young child feel comfortable in front of the audience.
12. Help your child set goals for their piano education. Create incentives for your child. If your child has trouble establishing good practice habits, try preparing a practice contract.
